Choosing a License Type

title: License Types Overview description: A quick reference for the license options available when publishing works or artifacts on KyaraFlip, including the KyaraFlip Basic License and Creative Commons presets.

Purpose

  • Help creators choose the appropriate license when registering works or artifacts
  • Clarify the differences between the KyaraFlip Basic License and external licenses such as Creative Commons

KyaraFlip Basic License

  • KyaraFlip’s default proprietary license for in-platform content
  • Key points:
    • Grants KyaraFlip the rights necessary to display the work/artifact within the service and connected features, in line with the Terms of Service
    • External redistribution or modification is not automatically allowed—obtain individual permission if needed
    • Copyright ownership remains with the creator
  • See KyaraFlip Fundamental License (KFL) for the full text

Creative Commons Licenses (CC)

  • Widely adopted open licenses. Common options include:
Code Name Summary
CC BY Attribution Anyone may reuse, modify, and redistribute as long as credit is given
CC BY-SA Attribution-ShareAlike Same as CC BY, but derivatives must use the same license
CC BY-NC Attribution-NonCommercial Reuse/modification allowed for non-commercial purposes only
CC BY-NC-SA NonCommercial + ShareAlike Combination of NC and SA requirements
CC BY-ND Attribution-NoDerivatives Redistribution allowed, no modifications
CC BY-NC-ND NonCommercial + NoDerivatives Most restrictive variant
  • Important considerations
    • Designed for reuse beyond KyaraFlip. Once published, others may share or remix the work within the license conditions
    • Carefully review whether you allow commercial use, derivatives, etc. before choosing

Other Licenses

  • If you must use a custom or third-party license (MIT, GPL, game-specific license terms, etc.), choose “Other (enter manually)” and include the key terms plus a URL
  • Ensure you have the rights to apply that license to your content

Choosing a License

  • Stay within KyaraFlip only: KyaraFlip Basic License is usually sufficient
  • Encourage wider sharing/remixing: choose a Creative Commons license (e.g., CC BY, CC BY-SA)
  • Avoid commercial reuse: CC BY-NC or a clearly worded custom license
  • Keep content private/closed: set visibility to “Unlisted” or “Private” and select an appropriate license with explicit restrictions

FAQ

Q. Does KyaraFlip Basic License allow external reuse?

  • No. It covers use within KyaraFlip. External reuse requires separate permission

Q. Can I change the license later?

  • Yes, but previous downloads may still be governed by the original license, so communicate the change clearly

Q. Not sure which one to pick?

  • Start with KyaraFlip Basic License, publish the work, then adjust the license once you are confident about the distribution policy
